Rutina Wesley Discusses ‘True Blood’
Actress Rutina Wesley was recently profiled in a video interview with Young Hollywood TV. Wesley plays Tara Thornton, the potty mouthed, no nonsense best friend of lead character Sookie Stackhouse on the hit HBO vampire drama True Blood.
The Juilliard alum dished about her audition process, and how her sense of humor made her stand out from the crowd. Her sense of humor was added to her character in the script writing, citing funny retorts written into the script such as the ‘affirmative action’ line. Wesley also discusses her distinguished dialect talents.
In the video, Wesley notes that True Blood Creator Alan Ball was won over by her when she approached her role differently than the others whom auditioned. “Rutina was the first person who showed her vulnerable side,” Ball was quoted as saying in an interview for the New York Times.
