SIDNEY POITIER HONORED AT THE 2011 CHAPLIN AWARD GALA
The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s honored Sidney Poitier at Alice Tully Hall with the 38th Annual Charlie Chaplin Award on May 2, 2011 in New York City. Mr Poitier was honored for his extraordinary career in film.
An actor with starring roles in some of the most important films of the last sixty years, he has made an indelible impact on the history of American film. His contribution to cinema makes up just a portion of his legacy, with notable off-screen roles including that of diplomat, philanthropist, and humanitarian. His groundbreaking body of work on both sides of the camera continues to delight, inspire, and entertain.
Presenters at the event included Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belafonte, Bill Cosby, Ruby Dee, Morgan Freeman, Danny Glover, Norman Jewison, Quincy Jones, James Earl Jones, Ben Kingsley, Lulu, Mary Louise Parker, Chris Tucker and Quentin Tarantino.
