Viola Davis Snags Lead Role In ‘Still I Rise’

Viola Davis will begin work on a new film entitled Still I Rise on May 23rd in Pittsburgh, PA. Davis plays one of the lead roles in the Daniel Barnz-directed film. She will act alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal in this story about mothers challenging the poor condition of their inner-city school system.

BlackActors.net contacted the casting agents working on this film a few weeks ago to inquire about roles available for African-Americans in this film. We were told there are no specific roles or open casting calls for any single race in particular. However, they are actively casting for background actors of all races and ethnicities.
