UPDATE: 8/9/11 We reported that Eureka will be cancelled after it’s next season. There were reports that an additional six-episode Season 6 would be it’s last. However, Syfy has reversed that decision and will not extend the series beyond Season 5. The series will film it’s last episodes within the next two weeks.

It’s being reported that Syfy’s Eureka will be coming to an end after it’s next season.

This news truly sucks! The show is great and features a very diverse cast which includes the talents of Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Tembi Locke, and Trevor Jackson. Four black actors who will now have to seek work elsewhere.

Syfy’s programming chief Mark Stern issued the following statement:

“Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia have brought a creative vitality to Eureka that has kept it fresh and inventive. Although we do not have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise.”

In video footage from this year’s Comic-Con, Richardson-Whitfield discussed her initial reluctancy on taking the role. She also revealed that her character wasn’t written for a woman of color. Watch the video below:
