Derek Luke Cast As Male Lead in ‘Sparkle’

Derek Luke has been cast as the male lead role in the forthcoming remake of Sam O’Steen‘s 1976 film Sparkle, reports BlackFilm.

CASTING: Open casting call for ‘Sparkle’ in Detroit, MI

Luke will play Stix, a role originally played by Miami Vice‘s Philip Michael Thomas. The film revolves around Sparkle (Jordin Sparks), a member of a singing trio trying to make it big in the 1960s. Stix serves as the girls’ manager and songwriter. He’s also the love interest of Sparks’ character.

Luke’s acting credits include “Miracle at St. Anna,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” and “Notorious.” He can be seen next in “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.”
