Eriq La Salle will soon return to television in another medical drama.

The former ER star has been cast in a recurring role on the upcoming CBS medical drama A Gifted Man, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

La Salle will recur as Evan Morrison, a neuropsychiatrist — a physician who treats those with emotional and behavioral disturbances. Morrison is described as a great medical detective who focuses on the nuances of human behavior.

Gifted Man revolves around a competitive surgeon whose world is turned upside down when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle) begins teaching him the meaning of life from the hereafter.

The actor is expected to appear in at least four episodes of the series. Executive producer of the series Neal Baer (also EP on ‘ER’) spoke about working with La Salle for this upcoming project.

“I’m thrilled to be working again with Eriq La Salle,” Baer told THR. “I have very fond memories of our time together on ER and look forward to having Eriq portray another unforgettable character on A Gifted Man.”

La Salle might also direct an episode of the upcoming drama. He has directed episodes of ER, and currently directing episodes of CW’s action drama Ringer, which stars Sarah Michelle Gellar.

A Gifted Man premieres Friday, Sept. 23 on CBS.
