‘Best Man’ Sequel Planned With Original Cast

'The Best Man'

Universal

Plans for a Best Man 2 sequel have been greenlit by Universal.

The studio has tapped Malcolm D. Lee to write, direct and produce the film. Deadline reports that Lee plans to ask the original cast to reprise their roles. And that the whole idea came out of a reunion dinner he held with most of the cast members.

The original 1999 wedding-themed film followed Taye Diggs as a writer preparing to be the best man for his football player best friend (Morris Chestnut), but the release of his autobiographical tell-all novel causes a drift in their friendship.

The film also starred Sanaa Lathan, Terrence Howard, Harold Perrineau, Nia Long, Monica Calhoun and Melissa De Sousza.
