Jurnee Smollett Lands Lead Role in Tyler Perry’s ‘The Marriage Counselor’

Jurnee Smollett has landed the lead role in director Tyler Perry‘s new film “The Marriage Counselor.”

The film is based on Perry’s 2008 stage play of the same name. According to Variety, “Smollett will play Judith, a newlywed marriage counselor who gives great relationship advice but finds it difficult to address issues within her own marriage.”

Although no other casting were announced, production of the film starts next week in Atlanta.

Smollett’s acting credits include “Eve’s Bayou,” “The Great Debaters, and “Friday Night Lights.”
