Oscar nominated actress Taraji P Henson gets glammed up for a spread in YRB Magazine. In an interview with the magazine, the actress addresses a lot of questions concerning her acting career and role choices. Henson, who is currently on the hit CBS show Person of Interest, also reveals her true feelings about losing the “Best Supporting Actress” Oscar.

On The Accessibility Of Roles For African-American Actresses

“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done, but you have to stay optimistic. It’s better than it was 30 years ago. Last season, there were complaints there weren’t enough African-Americans on television, but this season there’s an influx of us on the small screen. I can’t sit and say woe is me because that is not my story. The phone has not stopped ringing for me, and I am still working.“

On choosing diverse roles

“For me, it’s all about the writing and whether or not I feel I have played the character before. If it feels like I’ve done it before, I generally pass on the part. It really is about me continuing to challenge myself and not be pigeonholed. I will never say there’s a role that I will not play without first reading the script. I don’t judge my characters. I am a trained actress who has done Shakespeare in the Park. I can do anything, just give it to me.”
