Why Are Black British Actors So Popular? (Video)

A lot of meaty roles are going to black actors of European nationality. Some of the latest castings include David Oyelowo as Tuskegee airman Joe ‘Lightning’ Little in the upcoming blockbuster Red Tails. The British actor has also snagged a lead role in Ava DuVernay‘s upcoming film Middle of Nowhere. Brit Idris Elba has landed high-profile gigs such as Thor, and most recently, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Brit Newcomer John Boyega was cast in a lead role in Spike Lee‘s new boxing series “Da Brick.” Boyega will play a character loosely based on American boxing legend Mike Tyson. Brit Nonzo Anozie was recently cast in the wildly popular HBO series “Game of Thrones,” and also nabbed a role in the upcoming Conan The Barbarian remake. Brit Chiwetel Ejiofor will be playing American slave Solomon Northup in Steve McQueen‘s new film Twelve Years A Slave. The British actor will also be playing the American slave Christmas Moultrie in the forthcoming Savannah.

British actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, best known for his role as Abobisi in HBO’s “Oz,” sat down with The Urban Daily to discuss the rise in popularity of black British actors.
