Whitney Houston Biopic: Five Actresses Who Could Really Pull It Off

Rumors of a Clive Davis-produced Whitney Houston biopic have bee swirling around the internet. Reports of pop star Rihanna playing the legendary singer have also picked up steam. Since it’s now being reported that those [horrible] rumors are false, we’ve picked a few actresses who might be able to pull off the big role when the time actually does come.

1. Joy Bryant

The Yale graduate appeared in Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue (March 2006), and her career looked very promising as a big film star. However, she hasn’t quite landed the role to catapult her into super stardom. This could be Joy’s Introducing Dorothy Dandridge moment. Currently, she stars in NBC’s Parenthood.

2. Robinne Lee

The Columbia University beauty has appeared in some of the most successful films with a black lead. This could be her Whats Love Got to Do with It moment. Lee can be seen next alongside Isaiah Washington in The Under Shepherd.

3. Renee Goldsberry

Goldsberry is a true entertainer. This actress has a few talents the others might not have. Not only could she sing the entire soundtrack, she can dance and re-create all of Whitney’s music videos. And yes, she’s a phenomenal actress. Currently, she has a recurring role on CBS’ The Good Wife. She was a soap opera star during her days on One Life to Live. And she has done Broadway’s “Rent.” Watch her sing:

4. Yaya Dacosta Johnson

The former America’s Next Top Model contestant has been quietly building her resume as an actress. After landing her first major gig on the now-cancelled daytime soap All My Children, the reality tv star ventured into film. The actress has starred in films such as Tron: Legacy, The Kids Are All Right, and Justin TimberlakesIn Time. Dacosta-Johnson was featured on the cover of W‘s Great Expectactions, Hollywood’s Newest It Girs issue in Sept 2010. This could truly be Yaya’s big break. Either way, she’s still one to watch.

5. Naomie Harris

While Harris may not be the spitting image of Houston, the lady can act! She has starred in huge films such as ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ ’28 Days Later,’ and ‘Miami Vice.’ It would be interesting to see the British actress don Houston’s Jersey accent.
