British actress Shanika Warren-Markland stars in director Patrik-Ian Polk‘s new film The Skinny, opening April 6 in select cities across the U.S.

The actress stars alongside Jussie Smollett, Blake Young-Fountain, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, and Anthony Burrell in this sexually charged indie drama from the creator of Logo’s Noah’s Arc and Punks.

The film follows former college classmates reuniting one year after graduation for a celebratory weekend in New York City. Markland plays Langston, a lesbian best friend to a group of four gay men. The storyline is centered around New York City’s Gay Pride weekend, which is an annual event that celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture.

“Drinking, drugs, hidden desire and the demands of promiscuity put friendship, trust and even lives at risk,” says a press release describing the film’s plot. The film partnered up with the Black AIDS Institute to promote the importance of health in the LGBT Community, especially in the Black and Latino communities.

The Skinny will be shown in select cities starting with Washington D. C. and Atlanta, GA tommorrow. For more information, visit skinnythemovie.com to find out when the film will be coming to a city near you.

Markland’s film credits include Adulthood, and 4.3.2.1. Her most recent feature was a supporting role in Demons Never Die. She can be seen next in Victim.
