‘Thugs, The Musical’: New trailer featuring David Alan Grier, Baron Vaughn, and Kenn Michael debuts

Thugs, The MusicalWriter and comedian Kevin Avery introduces the world to a 25-minute mockumentary about out of work black actors willing to play up negative stereotypes in order to succeed in the industry.

Thugs, The Musical features a cast of established real-life black actors, including Baron Vaughn, Kenn Michael and Broadway star David Alan Grier. The film synopsis reads:

A faux documentary about a mediocre, slightly delusional, ‘non-urban’ black actor in Hollywood who decides to write, direct and star in his own theater production – an epically bad play called ‘Thugs, The Musical!’ – to show Hollywood (and the world) that he, too, can ‘act black.’

With the casting announcement of a similar thug musical project, it’s pretty safe to say that the thug musical concept is moving from parody and entering the realm of reality.
