Nigerian-American actress Adepero Oduye (“Pariah”) and Ethiopian-Irish actress Ruth Negga (“The Samaritan”) will join Nigerian-British thespian Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Salt”) in Afro-British director Steve McQueen‘s (“Shame”) upcoming American slavery drama Twelve Years A Slave.

The film, co-written by John Ridley (“Red Tails”) and McQueen, will center on Ejiofor as a free black man living in New York City during the mid 1800s who is kidnapped and sold into slavery in Louisiana.

Negga will play a “runaway slave,” while Oduye’s role in the film has not yet been revealed. They are the latest additions to a cast that includes Michael Fassbender and Paul Dano with an appearance by Brad Pitt.

No African-American actors have been announced for feature roles in the film yet. Filming starts in late June.
