Tony award nominee Da’Vine Joy Randolph recently sat down with Backstage to offer up some advice to young actors trying to make it in the business. In the new clip, Randolph warns aspiring actors to be at the top of their game before going after gigs in New York City as they will face fierce competition.

Randolph made her Broadway debut as the over-the-top psychic medium Oda Mae Brown in Ghost: The Musical. The actress has since been nominated for a Tony, Drama League, and a Outer Critics Cirle Award for her take on a role made famous by Whoopi Goldberg in the Academy Award-winning 1990 film about a romance that reaches into the afterlife.
