Ty Jones stars in off-Broadway’s ‘Macbeth’

Ty Jones in off-Broadway's 'Macbeth' Epic Theatre Ensemble’s off-Broadway production of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ is currently playing at the 47th Street theater until the end of the month. Obie winner Ty Jones stars in the title role, Melissa Friedman as Lady Macbeth, with supporting roles being played by Lori E. Parquet, Devin Haqq, Godfrey L. Simmons, Jr., and Julian Rozzell, Jr.

While the tragic story of a homicidal warrior and his wife remains the same, the play is given some interesting modern updates with the help of technology. Some characters appear on flat screen televisions and backdrops. The cast ditches the traditional Shakespearian garb for a more updated wardrobe.

The show’s reviews have been mixed, but they all seem to point in the same direction–Jones brings the drama. “Another jolt of energy comes from the Macbeth, Ty Jones, who leaps and darts around the stage and into the aisles,” reviews The New York Times. When referring to Jones’ portrayal of a hot tempered Macbeth, online hub Theater Mania said Jones “knows how to do fiery well, Whenever the murderous Macbeth loses his temper, Jones shakes the compact stage.”

Jones’ theater credits include ‘Enron,’ The Blacks,’ and ‘Henry IV.’ His film/tv credits include The International, and ‘Law and Order.’ Most recently, he appeared on an episode of the Broadway-themed NBC series ‘Smash.’
