A Closer look at 'The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess'

Penned by George and Ira Gershwin, “Porgy and Bess” has been called the greatest American opera. Mo Rocca explores the show’s history and its latest production on Broadway, nominated for 10 Tony Awards. The entire leading cast have all been nominated for a Tony for their performance in the musical.

In a closer look at the production, Rocca sat down for a video interview with the director and the main cast — Norm Lewis (Porgy), Audra McDonald (Bess), David Alan Grier (Sporting Life) and Phillip Boykin (Crown) –to discuss the new production, the controversy surrounding changes to the script, and the inspiration behind the play.
