Alicia Hall Moran steps into lead role in Broadway’s ‘The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess’
Alicia Hall Moran has temporarily assumed the female lead role of Bess in the Tony award-winning Broadway revival of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess.
Audra McDonald recently earned her fifth Tony Award for creating the role of Bess in the musical production of the Gershwin opera, which received a highly controversial reworking from visionary director Diane Paulus. The show is currently playing an extended engagement through Sept. 30.
On doctor’s orders, McDonald will be out of Porgy and Bess until July 3. The actress and singer is reportedly battling a respiratory infection.
Porgy and Bess marks Moran’s Broadway debut. Prior to her Broadway debut she performed as Bess in three performances at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts under the direction of Paulus.
