Casting ‘Straight Outta Compton’: Can you play a gangsta rapper with a west coast accent?

Can you or someone you know play an old school hardcore west coast rapper? This is your shot at superstardom! Phenomenal director Gary F. Gray (the man behind Set It Off, and Friday) is casting his highly-anticipated feature film Straight Outta Compton, a biopic about the legendary gangsta rap group N.W.A. (Niggas Wit Attitudes).

Being partially from Compton, I’m really excited about this project and I know exactly what kind of performance would be required to give it authenticity. My advice to anybody contemplating on auditioning is to examine the personalities of every member of the group by watching the interviews, music videos, and listening to the music. A video audition is required, so record a brief monologue and rap verse and put it on youtube.
