Good news! Leslie Odom Jr. has been promoted to a series regular on NBC’s hit musical drama Smash. Odom, who had a heavily recurring role during the first season as Sam, a love interest for Tom Levitt (Christian Borle), will return for the second season in a beefier role.

Smash, the scripted musical drama series about the makers of a new Broadway musical, will again star Emmy Award winner Debra Messing (Will & Grace), Oscar winner Anjelica Huston (Prizzi’s Honor), Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean films), Christian Borle (Legally Blonde the Musical, Peter and the Starcatcher), Katharine McPhee (American Idol) and Megan Hilty (9 to 5: The Musical).

Odom, who’s television credits include House of Lies, CSI: Miami, and Grey’s Anatomy, recently won a 2012 Astaire Award for his role in the Broadway musical Leap of Faith.
