Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Cast as Villain in ‘Thor’ Sequel ‘The Dark World’

Adewale Akinnuoye-AgbajeAdewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, best known as the menacing Adebisi on HBO’s “Oz,” has landed a double role in Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World.

The Brit actor has been added to the cast as one of the lead villains, playing the dual roles of Algrim the Strong and Kurse. The character Algrim the Strong is described in the comicbooks as the most powerful of a race of Dark Elves, who is coerced by Malekith to fight Thor. After he’s betrayed by Malekith and injured during a battle, Algrim is healed and transformed into a much more powerful being called Kurse, who is twice as a strong as Thor.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje joins previously cast Idris Elba, who received backlash from racist fans of the franchise after being cast as a fictional Nordic god in the original film.

Thor: The Dark World is scheduled for release in theaters on Nov. 8, 2013.
