‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Series Officially In The Works

Eddie Murphy in 'Beverly Hills Cop'

Paramount

As we reported last year, Eddie Murphy was pushing for a Beverly Hills Cop television adaptation with a strong interest in Kevin Hart taking on the updated titular role.

Vulture is now reporting that the project is officially moving forward with Sony Pictures Television and Producer Shawn Ryan at the helm.

In an interview with Rolling Stone last year, Murphy revealed that he planned on handing the ranks of the titular character off to another actor. He did, however, say that he would appear in the pilot episode and would recur if the pilot goes to series.

“What I’m trying to do with Beverly Hills Cop now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there,” Murphy said.

It’s unclear if his vision of the series will make it to the small screen, and it’s also not clear if both Murphy and Ryan are still considering Hart for the job. Is he even young enough to play Murphy’s son?
