E. Roger Mitchell cast in ‘Hunger Games’ Sequel
Great news! Another black actor will be joining The Hunger Games franchise.
E. Roger Mitchell has been cast in the sequel Catching Fire as Chaff, a middle aged tribute and former winner from District 11.
Catching Fire sees Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) returning to the Hunger Games arena for a special Quarter Quell Games. In a twist, the Capitol has decided to populate the arena with previous victors, choosing tributes only from each district’s pool of former winners. Mitchell’s character, Chaff, is a career tribute–who knew and likely mentored — the tributes Thresh (Dayo Okeniy) and Rue (Amandla Stenberg), who were killed in the first film.
Mitchell’s acting credits include minor roles in Battle: Los Angeles, The Crazies, Blood Done Sign My Name, and most recently, Flight (starring Denzel Washington).
Catching Fire is scheduled to be released in theaters on Nov. 22, 2013.
