Michael Kenneth Williams, best known for his role as the gun-toting Omar Little on HBO’s The Wire,  is in negotiations to join MGM’s Robocop remake.

Production is slated to begin next month in Toronto. If negotiations pan out, Williams will join a cast that already includes Samuel L. Jackson, Joel Kinnaman, and Hugh Laurie.

Williams will play the partner and family friend to police officer Alex Murphy (Kinnman), the character who is eventually known as Robocop.

Williams  recently wrapped shooting scenes for the black western They Die By Dawn, and is currently filming Steve McQueen‘s Twelve Years a Slave, which stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Alfre Woodard. The actor currently appears  as Chalky White on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.
