Morris Chestnut is getting back in the game. After a cameo appearance in Think Like a Man earlier this year, the actor has landed roles in the upcoming Kick-Ass sequel and the mystery action thriller The Hive.

Deadline first confirmed that Chestnut was cast as the male lead in Sony’s The Hive, opposite Oscar winner Halle Berry. The film, which is currently in production, sees Berry as a highly skilled 911 operator who tries to solve an ongoing crime when she takes an emergency call from a kidnapped girl in a trunk. Chestnut will play Berry’s love interest and a police officer working the case.

Chestnut has also been confirmed to play the guardian to Chloe Mortez‘s Hit Girl in Kick-Ass 2. The role was originally played by Omari Hardwick in the first film.

Kick-Ass 2 is scheduled to open in theaters on June 28, 2013.
