Tony Rock, Michole White, and Charlie Robinson join BET’s ‘Reed Between The Lines’ cast
Things are changing for BET’s Reed Between The Lines. The show is returning this fall for it’s second season with the addition of some new characters. While it’s unclear if female lead Tracee Ellis-Ross will return to the show, the series has enlisted some bonafide talent to fill the void. Tony Rock (brother of Chris Rock), Michole White (I Will Follow) and Charlie Robinson (“Home Improvement”) have joined the cast as series regulars.
THR.com reports: “Reed Between the Lines‘ second season finds Alex’s (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) life in turmoil now that he’s faced with an unplanned separation. He’ll turn to his family and oldest friends as he looks to adjust to life as a single father without his wife as he ponders how long Carla (Girlfriends‘ Tracee Ellis Ross) will be gone — and if she’s even coming back.”
“Rock, who hosted MyNetworkTV’s short-lived The Tony Rock Project, will play Julius Darren, Alex’s oldest friend who gets a call from Carla that her ex could use some support. He arrives to dole out unsolicited marriage advice along with another of Alex’s former friends, Simone Winters (White).
Simone returns to Alex’s life after abandoning her friend following his marriage, claiming that love “made him stupid.” She’s described as a perennially single doctor who’s sick of hearing how she intimidates men.
Lastly, Robinson will play Alex’s nonsense-spewing father, Monroe Reed, who brings wisdom and levity to his son’s life and claims to have “woman trouble” despite being married to the same woman for 40 years. ”
Robinson, who is best known for his role on “Night Court,” was recently cast in a recurring role on CW’s “Hart of Dixie.” The veteran actor will be playing Sgt. Jeffries, the grandfather of Ruby Jeffries, who will be played by “Girlfriends” alum Golden Brooks.
