Malik Yoba announced this past weekend that he has been cast as Martin Luther King Jr. in Lifetime’s ‘Betty and Coretta.’

As previously reported, the telepic will follow the lives of Coretta Scott King and Dr. Betty Shabazz following the assassinations of their famous husbands.

Yoba joins previously announced cast members Angela Bassett (as Coretta), Mary J. Blige (as Betty), and Ruby Dee.

The actor posted the following on facebook:

I am feeling incredibly honored, just got cast as MLK JR in the Lifetime movie “Betty and Corretta” playing opposite Angela Bassett as “Corretta”[sic]…I am determined to do his legacy proud!!! GOD IS GOOD!!! But with me just rocking the mustache my 10 year old son keeps saying “Dad you look like a deputy! All you need is a brown uniform, and a hat!” Where do kids get this stuff? LOL!!!

Yoba’s acting credits include “New York Undercover,” “Girlfriends,” and Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?” franchise. He can currently be seen on Syfy’s “Alphas.”

Production begins later this month in Montreal; an airdate has not yet been announced.
