NBC is making good on it’s diversity promises with the latest addition to the Season 2 cast of Whitney.

Tone Bell, winner of NBC’s 2011 Stand Up for Diversity Program, will join the comedy next season as a series regular, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Bell will play RJ, “the bartender at Whitney (Cummings) and Alex’s (Chris D’Elia) new local spot, who is described as effortlessly cool, rock solid and a confident guy — but not in a cocky way. The divorced “guy’s guy” remains optimistic and patient about finding the right woman and believes chivalry still exists.” He may also serve as the love interest for Zoe Lister Jones‘s Lily.

Bell was recently seen playing a gay stand-up comedian on VH1’s ‘Single Ladies.’ His role on that show ended in a cliff hanger, so it’s unclear if he will reprise his role next season.

Whitney premieres Sunday, Oct. 9 at 8pm ET on NBC.
