Despite recent controversy, the Nina Simone biopic is shaping up quite nicely with the latest additions to the cast.

Mike Epps has been tapped to play late comedian Richard Pryor in Nina, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Epps will star alongside Zoe Saldana, who will play the legendary singer. Pryor served as an opening act for Simone in concert during the early 60s.

The cast also includes Middle of Nowhere‘s David Oyelowo, who plays Simone’s manager.

Epps recently starred as 1960s’ comedian Satin Struthers in Sparkle earlier this year. His past film credits include Jumping The Broom and The Honeymooners. He can be seen next alongside Forest Whitaker in the psychological thriller Vipaka.
