Morris Chestnut has joined the Season 5 cast of Showtime’s medical comedy series “Nurse Jackie,” Deadline learned exclusively.

Chestnut will play a new character named Dr. Ike Prentiss who learns bedside care from Edie Falco‘s Jackie. Chestnut’s character is described as a “new trauma doctor and former Army medic who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.” The actor will appear in multiple episodes throughout the entire season.

Chestnut is currently in negotiations to play the role of Graham Jackson alongside Octavia Spencer and Paula Patton in David E. Talbert’s Baggage Claim. He can also be seen in the upcoming comedy Identity Thief, opposite Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. Chestnut’s comeback doesn’t stop there–the actor will complete work on Kick Ass 2: Balls To Wall and Sony’s The Hive.
