‘Steel Magnolias’: What viewers are saying
The highly anticipated television adaptation of Steel Magnolias aired Sunday night and immediately sent twitter users into a frenzy. The telepic received mixed, but mostly negative reviews on twitter.
Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah stars in and executive produced the project. She reprised the role of M’Lynn, a character made famous by Sally Field. Latifah was joined by an all-star cast that included Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad as Clairee, Golden Globe and multiple Emmy winner Alfre Woodard as Ouiser, Grammy winner Jill Scott as Truvy, Adepero Oduye as Annelle, and Tony nominee Condola Rashad as Shelby.
We scanned twitter for reactions to the film and chose the most insightful responses. Viewers ridiculed some cast members for their less than stellar southern accents, lack of chemistry, and subdued emotional performances.
Tell us what you thought about Steel Magnolias.
I’m so hammered this all black remake of Steel Magnolias is semi-half-way not so terrible.

The problem is that the cast is missing chemistry. The only time I saw it was with Alfre & Phylicia #steelmagnolias #lifetime

The new Steel Magnolias can’t not, in anyway what so ever, compare with the original. You just can’t mess with a classic.

Seriously. I can’t stand the fake accents in this new #SteelMagnolias movie. Don’t try to act southern- it’s a way of life not pronunciation

@angelonfire This movie has NO emotion or feeling at all! It’s a disconnection with the chemistry of the actors!

I love Queen Latifah and Jill Scott. But I’m not convinced they were the best choices for the roles they play.#SteelMagnolias
