First Look at Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett on the Set of ‘Black Nativity’ (PHOTOS)
The highly-anticipated musical “Black Nativity” is back on track after finding a new leading man in Oscar winner Forest Whitaker.
As we reported back in September, the film was shelved after Samuel L. Jackson dropped out of the project for reasons unknown to us. However, casting has moved forward and production is currently underway in New York City.
Directed by Kassi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou), “Black Nativity” tells the story of a teenage boy from Baltimore who is sent by his single mother (Jennifer Hudson) to Harlem to spend Christmas with the grandparents he’s never met. Through his grandfather’s Christmas Eve sermon and a stylized, dream-sequence retelling of the classic Nativity story, he learns about the importance of faith and family.
Whitaker plays the grandfather and Angela Bassett plays his wife.
The film also stars Tyrese Gibson, Jacob Latimore and Nas.
