The  Playwrights Horizon production of Tanya Barfield‘s ‘The Call’ begins previews March 22. Opening night is April 14.

Directed by Leigh Silverman, the African adoption drama features Eisa Davis, Russell G. JonesCrystal A. Dickinson, Kelly AuCoin and Kerry Butler.

Part of the 2012/2013 season slate, producers describe “The Call” as such:

“When Annie and Peter decide to adopt, they come to set their sights on a child from Africa. But when the reality of this choice sinks in, it opens a well of uncertainty that speaks to their very identity as White Americans. Politically-charged and tack-sharp, The Call is a startling portrait of cultural divide, casting global issues into the heart of an American home.”

The production also features scenic design by Rachel Hauck, lighting design by Matt Frey, sound design by Jill BC DuBoff. The production stage manager is Vanessa Coakley.
