Derek Luke has earned another shot at a television career by landing a co-starring role in the CBS pilot Second has learned.

Based on the British series by Paula Milne, Second Sight is a gothic psychological thriller about Detective Ross Tanner (Jason Lee), the lead detective with the New Orleans Police Department,  who hunts down killers while secretly battling an ocular disease that causes him to have horrifying hallucinations.

Luke will play Detective Paul Giroux, the overly ambitious new addition to Tanner’s team, who’s also gunning for Tanner’s job.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Giroux is “somewhat self-consciously hip, full of himself and consistently oversteps. He comes across as an eager-beaver know-it-all, trying to assert an authority that he hasn’t earned and doesn’t yet possess.”

Luke’s previous television credits include  NBC’s Trauma and TNT’s Hawthorne; he most recently appeared on FX’s The Americans.
