The first trailer for Kasi Lemmons‘ gospel musical Black Nativity aired tonight during the 2013 BET Awards.

The film, an adaptation of Langston Hughes‘ classic play, stars Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson, Jacob Latimore, Tyrese Gibson, Mary J. Blige, and Nasir Jones.

Black Nativity centers on a street-wise teen (Latimore) from Baltimore, raised by a single mother (Hudson), who travels to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives and embarks on a surprising and inspirational journey.

While we don’t get to hear Bassett or Whitaker belt out any notes in the trailer, we sure do get an earful of Latimore and Hudson singing ‘Silent Night.’

Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think.

Black Nativity opens in theaters on November 27.
