Emmys 2013: Kerry Washington and Don Cheadle NominatedThe Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Thursday revealed nominees for the 65th annual Emmy awards. While the nominations for black actors and actresses aren’t as plentiful as we would hope, some of the nods are poised to make history.

Kerry Washington received her first Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category for her role as Olivia Pope in “Scandal.”  Washington has become the first African-American to score a best actress nod since Cicely Tyson in 1995 for the NBC legal drama “Sweet Justice.”

Don Cheadle was nominated for a second time in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role as Marty Khan in Showtime’s ‘House of Lies.’

Alfre Woodard also scored a nod in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie category for her role as Ouiser in Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias.”

The Primetime Emmy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Sept. 22 and will air live on CBS.
