Jamie Foxx took to the stage wearing a Trayvon Martin t-shirt to give an emotional speech after winning the top acting honor at the BET Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles, California.

The 45-year-old, who plays a slave-turned-bounty hunter in Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained, won Best Male Actor at the irreverent awards show.

Foxx’s co-star Kerry Washington also took home a top acting honor when she was named Best Actress.

The BET Awards celebrate black musicians, actors and athletes. The program is televised on the cable TV network BET, Black Entertainment Television, part of Viacom Inc.
