Chiwetel Ejifor returns to the stage in a new production of Aimé Césaire’s ‘A Season in the Congo,’ which runs through August 26 at the Young Vic in London.

Ejifor, who was last seen on the London stage in the title role of ‘Othello’ at the Donmar Warehouse for which he won an Olivier Award, plays a Congolese man who became the country’s first democratically elected Prime Minister.

The play is being billed as a “gripping drama that charts the rise and fall of legendary leader Patrice Lumumba, whose passionate determination to free his people from Belgian rule inspired great courage and betrayal.”

The cast includes Lydie Alberto, Nandi Bhebhe, Brian Bovell, Sharon Brewster, Kurt Egyiawan, Daniel Kaluuya, Joan Iyiola, Josépha Madoki, Joseph Mydell, Kaspy N’Dia, Sandra Reid, Ira Siobhan, Oliver Tida Tida, and Kabongo Tshisensa.
