Hollywood is heating up with black talent and the top agencies are taking note. Several high-profile actors have jumped ship to new talent agencies with hopes of securing better roles.

ICM Partners has signed Oscar winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr, who currently stars on Broadway alongside Cicely Tyson in The Trip To Bountiful. He previously was represented by CAA. Gooding, who won an Oscar for his role in Jerry McGuire, will appear next in the indie flick Life Of A King. The actor will also star in Lee Daniels’ The Butler later on this year.

Idris Elba, the 40 year-old star of BBC’s Luther, has signed with WME for all areas of his career. The British actor next stars in the Guillermo del Toro-directed Pacific Rim, which opens July 12. Elba, who got his start in HBO’s The Wire, will appear opposite Skyfall star Naomie Harris in Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom. Elba continues to be repped in the U.K. by Roger Charteris at Ken McReddie.

Eddie Griffin has also inked a deal for representation with ICM Partners. Griffin, who was named one of the top 100 greatest stand-up comics of all time by Comedy Central, makes the move just ahead of his big screen return later this year in Blake Freeman’s Mucho Dinero.
