First Official Images from ’12 Years A Slave’ Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyongo, and Dwight Henry

Here’s your first look at six brand new images from Steve McQueen‘s upcoming film 12 Years a Slave, which is based on a true story and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyongo, Alfre Woodard, Quvenzhane Wallis, Michael K. Williams, Chris Chalk, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as Solomon Northup, a free man tricked, captured and sold into slavery in Twelve Years a Slave, a film based off of Northup’s autobiography.

Sarah Paulson, left, plays Mistress Epps, wife to Fassbender’s Edwin Epps, alongside newcomer Lupita Nyongo, who plays Patsey, a fellow slave and friend to Solomon. Director Steve McQueen said of Lupita Nyongo: “a star is born.”

Edwin Epps (Michael Fassbender), left, and Patsey (Lupita Nyongo), center, maintain a volatile relationship, much to the dismay of her friend and fellow slave Solomon (Chiwetel Ejiofor), left, and Edwin’s wife (Sarah Paulson; not pictured).

Dwight Henry (far left), of Beasts of the Southern Wild fame, stars as Abram alongside Ejiofor’s Solomon Northup (middle right). Henry’s Beasts co-star, and recent best-actress nominee, Quvenzhane Wallis also stars in the film.

Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and his first owner Baptist preacher William Ford (Benedict Cumberbatch) maintained a remarkable friendship. Unfortunately, Solomon’s time with Ford was relatively brief during his 12 years of slavery.

Most of Solomon’s 12 years in slavery was spent under the watch of the cruel planter Edwin Epps (Michael Fassbender), right, who posed an incredible physical and mental challenge to Solomon.

12 Years a Slave is set for an early limited release on Oct. 18.
