The first footage from the upcoming Marvin Gaye biopic Sexual Healing has arrived online.

The film, directed by Brit filmmaker Julien Temple, stars Jesse L. Martin as the legendary Motown soul singer in a story about the final years of his life, when a downward spiral into drug and alcohol addiction led him to Europe where he recorded his final and most successful album.

Unfortunately, the production value isn’t the greatest and the dialogue isn’t doing much for us either. However, Martin bears an uncanny resemblance to the “What’s Going On” singer that’s hard to deny.

The film also stars S. Epatha Merkerson as Alberta Gaye, Brendan Gleeson as Freddy Couseart, Clarke Peters as Harvey Fuqua, Dwight Henry as Marvin Gaye Sr., Elarica Gallacher as Janis Gaye, Rowena King as Marilyn, and Vicky Krieps as Eugenie Vis.

Sexual Healing is scheduled to be released on April 1, 2014. That date may be subject to change since production has stopped on the film due to financial issues.
