It’s been a long time coming, but Don Cheadle‘s Miles Davis biopic is officially happening.

The Hotel Rwanda star will play the jazz pioneer in Kill the Trumpet Player, a biopic the actor has been trying to put together for years now.

The film is being produced by BitFrost Productions in collaboration with Davis’ family. Cheadle will also make his feature directorial debut from a script co-written with Steven Baigelman.

Zoe Saldana will co-star as Frances Davis, Miles’ former wife.

Kill the Trumpet Player will tell the story of a few dangerous days in the life of Miles Davis as he bursts out of his silent period and conspires with a Rolling Stone writer (Ewin McGregor) to steal back his music.
