‘Les Misérables’ actor Kyle Jean-Baptiste Dies at 21

Kyle Jean-Baptiste HeadshotKyle Jean-Baptiste, an actor who made his stage debut in Broadway’s Les Misérables, has died at the age of 21.

The news of his death was confirmed by producers of Les Miserables on Twitter earlier today. The company released the following statement:

“The entire LES MISERABLES family is shocked and devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Kyle, a remarkable young talent and tremendous person who made magic – and history – in his Broadway debut. We send our deepest condolences to his family and ask that you respect their privacy in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Jean-Baptiste made history when he became the first Haitian-American to play the leading role of Jean Valjean in a Broadway production. He was also the youngest to ever play the role.

Marc Thibodeau, a spokesperson for the Les Misérables, said that Jean-Baptiste died from injuries related to a fall from a fire escape.
