Watch Idris Elba in ‘Beasts of No Nation’ Trailer (Video)

"Beasts of No Nation" Trailer Starring Idris Elba

Netflix has released the intense first trailer for their original feature film, Beasts of No Nation. The film, directed by True Detective‘s Cary Fukunaga, stars Idris Elba as an African warlord and Abraham Attah as his child protege.

The official film synopsis reads:

BEASTS OF NO NATION is based on the highly acclaimed novel by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala, bringing to life the gripping tale of Agu, a child soldier torn from his family to fight in the civil war of an African country. Newcomer Attah gives a stunning portrayal of Agu, while Elba dominates the screen in the role of Commandant, a warlord who takes in Agu and instructs him in the ways of war.

The film will be released simultaneously in theaters and online through Netflix’s subscription video on demand service. Considering it a violation of the traditional 90-day window of exclusivity to theatres, AMC Cinemas, Carmike Cinemas, Cinemark, and Regal Entertainment-four of the largest theatre chains in the United States, announced that they would boycott Beasts of No Nation-effectively downgrading it to a limited release at smaller and independent theatres.

Beasts of No Nation debuts on Netflix and in select theaters on October 16.
