Donald Glover Cast as Lando in 'Star Wars' Spinoff

“Community” star Donald Glover will play a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Hans Solo spinoff movie, Lucasfilm announced on Friday.

Glover has some pretty big space boots to fill. The role of Lando was originally played by the legendary Billy Dee Williams in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back and 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

The untitled film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller—the team behind 21 Jumpstreet and The Lego Movie—under Disney’s Lucasfilm banner.

“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

Glover currently stars in FX’s “Atlanta.”

The ‘Hans Solo’ film will open in theaters on May 25, 2018.
