Todrick Hall Joins Broadway's 'Kinky Boots'

Viral sensation Todrick Hall has been tapped to lead the Broadway production of the Tony Award-winning musical “Kinky Boots,” beginning November 1.

He will replace Alan Mingo Jr. as drag queen Lola, who will depart the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on October 30.

Based on the 2005 British film of the same name, ‘Kinky Boots’ centers around shoe factory owner Charlie, who revitalizes his struggling family business by manufacturing fetish footwear with the help of a fabulous drag queen.

The role of Lola was originally played by Chiwetel Ejiofor in the film version, and it earned Billy Porter his first Tony award after he originated the role on Broadway.

The musical, featuring a score by Cyndi Lauper, with a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein and direction and choreography by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, won six Tonys in 2013 including Best Lead Actor in a Musical.

Hall previously appeared on Broadway in a 2013 stint in ‘The Color Purple.’
