Tommy Ford, ‘Martin’ actor, Dies at 52

Tommy Ford HeadshotTommy Ford, the actor who famously portrayed Tommy on the hit comedy series “Martin,” has passed away. He was 52.

Ford, a veteran actor with more than 80 film credits to his name, died Wednesday at a hospital in Atlanta following complications from a knee surgery.

In the movies, Ford appeared in Kid ‘n’ Play’s 1992 classic Class Act, and played opposite of Arsenio Hall in Harlem Nights. He also appeared in films such as Across the Tracks and The Butcher’s Wife.

On FOX’s “Martin,” Ford portrayed Tommy Strawn, the unemployed best friend of the character played by Martin Lawrence, from 1992-1997. He then had a very unusual turn as Lt. Malcolm Barker—the head of the New York Police Department’s Special Investigations Division— on FOX’s “New York Undercover” from 1998 to 1999. Ford also starred in a recurring role on BET’s “The Parkers.” The actor made several guest appearances on various shows including “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “MacGyver,” and “House.”

Ford is survived by his wife and three children.
