Denzel Washington and Viola Davis Nominated for Oscars

The nominations for the 89th Academy Award nominations are officially in, and unlike previous years, the list contains a handful of black nominees.

“Moonlight” scored eight nominations, including Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali) and Best Supporting Actress (Naomie Harris).

“Fences” scored four nominations in total, with Denzel Washington being nominated for Best Actor and Viola Davis scoring Best Supporting actress.

Ruth Negga was nominated for Best Actress in Drama for her role in “Loving,” while Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the box office hit “Hidden Figures.”

Harris, Spencer, and Davis made history with their nominations, marking the first time three black actresses have been nominated together in an acting category.

The 89th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 26 at 8:30 p.m. EST.
